First Penance & First Eucharist

Reconciliación y Eucaristía

Picture
The reception of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is an occasion of great celebration in the life of a Catholic Family.  The Cathedral Parish of the Immaculate Conception desires to support both Parents/Guardians and children in this unique moment of grace.  To do so, we invite Parent and Family participation in a variety faith activities ~ Parent Sacrament Forums, catechetical lessons, and Presentation of Candidates ~  all events which lead to the celebration of the Sacraments.

Diocesan guidelines for First Reconciliation require children be prepared for, and be given the opportunity to celebrate, the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to the reception of First Eucharist. Two consecutive years of preparation immediately prior to the reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharist are required.

Presently, we celebrate these sacraments in Grade 2.

Sacrament Requirements include:
    + Weekly Participation in Mass
+ Registration in the Cathedral Parish
+ A copy of the Child's Baptismal Certificate
+ Readiness to receive the Sacrament
+ Parent/Guardian participation in the  Parent Meetings, and Adult Faith Formation opportunities.

Children are prepared for the Sacraments through the Catholic Elementary Schools, or the Cathedral CCD/PREP (Parish Religious Education Program).   Parents must notify the Director of Religious Education by September 30  for the reception of First Penance and First Eucharist in the following Spring.
